Jastreb - Jastreb

Review by Troy Janda

Jastreb's self-titled album, released in 2021, showcases their unique blend of black metal and traditional Serbian folk music. The album features six tracks, each with its own distinctive sound and atmosphere.

The opening track, "Kamenolom," sets the tone for the album with its driving drums and hypnotic guitar riffs. "Krvnik" and "Zmija" showcase the band's ability to seamlessly blend traditional folk instruments, such as the gusle and the dvojnice, with the harshness of black metal.

The album's standout track, "Krvava Gruda - Plameni Vihor," is a hauntingly beautiful composition that perfectly captures the essence of Jastreb's sound. The use of female vocals and acoustic guitar gives the track a sense of melancholy and longing that is both captivating and emotional.

Jastreb is a side project of members coming from Industrial/Dark Ambient projects in Croatia: their self-titled 2012 debut is a clone of Saint Vitus, Black Sabbath and Leslie West's Mountain.
