In sports people keep getting better and faster and breaking new world record, with trombone no one will ever be better than Arthur Pryor. What a fkksksjsksing legend, even way better than Joseph Joseph allessi.
Wow how come I’ve only heard of this guy just now? What an absolute beast of a trombonist.
I feel 2:33 is missed by anyone not a current or former trombone player. The flawless jump between the low and high notes is easily missed if you don't know they're there. Arthur Pryor is basically to the trombone as Paganini was to the violin, virtuosity to the point of absurdity.
amazing technic still impresses me, even with manufacturing technology being what it was in the early 20th century
I have a Conn trombone made in the early 19 hundreds, .465 bore, essentially identical to the instrument that Arthur Pryor played, and an Arthur stamped mouthpiece. After comparing this horn to a modern tenor trombone, and listening to these old acoustic recordings, I am amazed at his impeccable technique and rich tone. He was a phenomenon in his time, and he still is.
Considering the equipment he had at his disposal this is a miraculous performance!
Have always wanted to hear him play this. Thanks!
The first trombone solo ever recorded.
