Herbie Hancock's album "River: The Joni Letters" is a tribute to the legendary Canadian singer-songwriter Joni Mitchell. Released in 2007, the album features a lineup of jazz luminaries including Wayne Shorter, Dave Holland, and Vinnie Colaiuta, as well as guest vocalists such as Norah Jones, Tina Turner, and Mitchell herself.

The album is a sublime blend of jazz and folk, showcasing Hancock's virtuosic piano playing and the soulful vocals of his guests. The songs are reimagined with fresh arrangements that pay homage to Mitchell's original compositions while adding a new dimension of improvisation and spontaneity.

The opening track, "Court and Spark," sets the tone with its funky bassline and playful piano riffs. Norah Jones' sultry vocals on "The River" are a standout, while Mitchell's own rendition of "Tea Leaf Prophecy" is a hauntingly beautiful tribute to her own legacy.
