About Sammy
Sammy was a bi-coastal indie rock group from the United States composed of (A&R man for , , and , onetime member of , currently president of 's Beats Audio company) in Los Angeles and (later of ) in New York. The two were college friends. Regarding the band's name, Hartman told MTV (in November 1996): "It's my middle name, and a great restaurant on the Lower East Side. It's an old landmark Jewish steakhouse north of Delancey on Chrystie." The band was influenced by late-'70s punk and '80s new wave, including , , , and , and early-to-mid-'90s US indie rock trends. The latter earned them dismissive and comparisons from music critics seeking facile descriptive shortcuts, though the band's songwriting stood strongly on its own. Active in the mid-1990s, the group broke up not long after the release of their second album, "Tales Of Great Neck Glory".

I might be the only guy who heard them before I had heard of Pavement
Kind of a shameless appropriation of Wire's "Strange" riff combined with Pavement. Not terrible, but I can see why this never really broke through.
they sound like pavement? Who cares? And like -- is that a bad thing -- more Pavement?
The Pavement comparison is shallow. Same genre, not the same sound.

Man, I wore the tread out of this record. Fantastic album, and I totally love this song.
The Pavement comparisons might have applied to the first album but on Great Neck Glory I think they finally found their own sound. There's a lot more Jonathan Richman lyrically here than Stephen Malkmus, for sure.
Christ reminds me of high school. Both good and bad with that
Tales of Great Neck Glory is a great album. Sammy was awesome.
FUCKKEN BANG!!
they sounds a bit like pavement but they are also completly different..their approach to songs is nothing like pavement. i have a few 7" from Sammy too. So good!
