Review by Sary Melati

Yumi Kagura, the latest album by Shigeo Tanaka, is a mesmerizing collection of traditional Japanese music that is sure to captivate any listener. As a renowned master of the Kagura, a form of Shinto music and dance, Tanaka brings his decades of experience and expertise to every track on the album.

From the opening notes of "Kagura Mai," to the haunting melodies of "Yumi no Uta," each piece on Yumi Kagura showcases Tanaka's skill and passion for the art of Kagura. The album features a variety of traditional instruments, including the shakuhachi flute, taiko drums, and of course, the yumi bow that is central to the Kagura performance.

One standout track on the album is "Tsuchigumo," a piece inspired by a famous Japanese folktale about a giant spider that terrorizes a village. Tanaka's interpretation of the story through music is both haunting and beautiful, with the yumi bow providing a sense of tension and drama.
