Review by Tara Greene

The Story of Sleeping Beauty by Norman Rose is a charming and enchanting album that brings the classic fairy tale to life with its beautiful music and captivating narration. The album features a collection of original compositions by Rose, as well as traditional pieces that perfectly complement the story.

The narration by Rose is superb, as he guides the listener through the tale with his warm and soothing voice. The music is equally impressive, with its sweeping orchestral arrangements and delicate piano melodies that capture the magic and wonder of the story.

One of the highlights of the album is the track "The Spell Is Broken," which features a stunning vocal performance by Rose that adds an extra layer of emotion to the story. Another standout track is "The Prince's Dance," which is a lively and upbeat piece that perfectly captures the joy and excitement of the story's climax.

I loved this series as a kid too; didn't realize others had as well. The whole production is very high quality, and I've remembered some of these melodies ever since. Great to hear them again.

I gave a copy of this set and it’s companion, Prokofiev’s Cinderella, to the sound archive of the Glinka Music Museum in Moscow in 1995. When I returned home they wrote to me that they loved these adaptations.

I don’t care what others say about this recording. It brought back lots of memories of my childhood. I first heard it when my dad was a teacher at Carlton elementary school. I got to dance in both this ballet and the Cinderella ballet. I had lots of fun.

Thank you for sharing this! A childhood favourite that I never thought I’d hear again

Great memories of this! I never had ever seen the cover; it was long gone by the time my brothers and I came along!

My parents had these records for us when I was a child, discards from the local library. I remember playing them over and over again. They were thrown out long ago as they were worn and scratched. I never thought I'd hear them again, and doing so nearly brought me to tears. This record set helped to give me an appreciation for classical music, and indeed, throughout the decades, whenever I heard a performance of Tchaikovsky's Suite from Sleeping Beauty, I always remembered this set. How sad that things like this are not produced today. My thanks to <> for making this available for all to hear.

I also had a set of "discards" of CRG records. They were a staple of my upbringing, but were already in pretty bad shape by the time I got them, and were played on a godawful old kiddie record player with a tone arm that weighed 10 lbs. Is this from a master recording, or just a very well-preserved record? BTW, my parents used these to force-feed me classical music, along with Rusty in Orchestraville and Willie the Whale.

Thank you for posting. What a nice memory.

This was one of my three favorites from the Children's Record Guild and a big part of my early childhood. I remember when I first saw the Disney animated feature and heard "Once Upon a Dream". I was irate. I said to Mama, "That's not right! It's supposed to be 'If you'll be my partner and sing one-two-three and come dancing with me...'!" As much as I enjoyed the Disney version, this will always be MY "Sleeping Beauty". THANK YOU for sharing it. :)

I sing this to my grandkids. Never thought I would hear it again! Thanks so much for sharing it.

Thank you so much for posting this! When I was 5 and my sister Juli was 7 , we used to listen to this charming record handed down to us by our mother from her own childhood. We laughed and laughed imitating Catabute, which was something we continued to do through our teenage years and adulthood. Faster faster faster faster till you tumble to the GROOOOWWWWNNNNDD!! My sister passed away in 2016. I miss her so much. Listening to this record reminds me of such good times. ❤️???

This is an example of how in the 1950s in our post-war recovery there was the desire to cultivate children for a "better" existence.  Oh, how much has been lost since then.

I had this record set along with CINDERELLA.  My mother had me give it to my younger cousins.  It was lost in a fire, and I have not heard this in 52 years!

My parents gave me a subscription to the Children's Record Guild in the early 1950s - I'm sure my lifelong love of classical music was influenced by this.
