Musical Youth - Sixteen

Review by Tommy Flugt

The album Sixteen by Musical Youth is a classic example of reggae music from the 1980s. The album features the hit single "Pass the Dutchie," which was a chart-topper in several countries. The album is a mix of upbeat and slow-paced reggae tracks that showcase the band's musical talents.

The album opens with the song "Sixteen," which sets the tone for the rest of the album. It's a groovy track that features a catchy chorus and an infectious beat. The album also includes the tracks "Heartbreaker" and "Unconditional Love," which are slower-paced reggae tracks that showcase the band's ability to create emotional and heartfelt music.

The standout track on the album is undoubtedly "Pass the Dutchie." The song is a catchy tune that features a memorable chorus and a funky beat. The song's popularity helped to launch Musical Youth into the mainstream, and it remains one of the band's most popular songs to this day.

About Musical Youth

Musical Youth are mainly remembered as a child novelty act - but that's not really fair. Formed in Birmingham in the early 1980s by , formerly of as his backing band, Musical Youth could genuinely play and worked in Birmingham pubs (guitarist Kelvin Waite debuting at the age of 7!) before being signed by MCA in 1982. A condition of their signing was that a lead singer "your own age" was acquired, and so Dennis Seaton joined the Waite and Grant brothers. Their first MCA single "Pass The Dutchie
