Too bad Fats died before ever getting his hands on a Hammond. I have a CD of Jimmy Smith playing Fats Waller stuff on the Hammond but sadly he uses the same "lawnmower whistle" drawbars almost all the way through. Big disappointment. But the real Waller, I could listen to all day.
This is every bit as excellent as Bix’s recording, and that’s saying something!
Wonderful and thanks tons for putting all this great material on YT. Question - were these electric recordings?
You don#t ghet to hear of fats on the organ, but much of his early development was on this Instrument. To think he died at 39...
I have loved this record all my life. The Sugar Babes were a super group. The great Rodgers and Hart song had just been written when they recorded it. Fats Waller and James P Johnson, student and mentor on one record. Jabbo Smith was a great trumpet player and his blues licks were delicious. And reedman Garvin Bushell was so accomplished, he could have played in a classical orchestra. The soaring spirit of this song and performance is unmatched!
I enjoyed the video!

This is great - owned several organs in my time but not talented enough - gave daughter lessons and she was not enthused . Still follow organ and piano with enjoyment.
