Review by Pilar Fernández

The Haydn String Quartets album by Haydn, The Hungarian Quartet, is a remarkable collection of chamber music that showcases the composer's genius. The quartet's performance is simply outstanding, with each member displaying exceptional technical skills and musicality.

The album comprises six string quartets, each with its unique character and style. The quartet's rendition of the pieces is characterized by impeccable phrasing, dynamics, and articulation, making the music come alive.

The first quartet, Op. 20 No. 4, is a beautiful work that features a rich harmonic language and a playful character. The Hungarian Quartet's interpretation of the piece is exceptional, bringing out the nuances of the music with great sensitivity.

The second quartet, Op. 33 No. 3, is a more complex work that requires great technical prowess from the performers. The Hungarian Quartet rises to the challenge and delivers a breathtaking performance that captures the essence of the music.

The album's highlight is the third quartet, Op. 54 No. 2, which is widely regarded as one of Haydn's finest works. The Hungarian Quartet's rendition of the piece is simply sublime, with each member contributing to the overall beauty of the music.

About Haydn, The Hungarian Quartet

Born: 1732-03-31 (Rohrau, Austria) Born 31 march or 1st April, 1732. Died: 1809-09-05 (Vienna, Austria). Franz Joseph Haydn was an Austrian composer of the Classical period. He brings the "sonata form" to a very high degree of improvement. His symphonies and his string quartets (forms of which he is considered "the father") have become highly inspirational style models. Haydn made a fundamental contribution to the development of chamber music; thanks to the numerous quartets, trios for piano, for strings and also with the unusual trios for baryton, viola and cello.
