Interesting, there is no backup singers. Do you think, possibly, this was cut as a demo and when they needed B side, they picked it to fill in the slot? It does show her control vocally and without double tracking and also no backup singers, she shines. Agree it's not as powerful that we expect from her. But still good. Thanks for the enjoyment.
It is a very tender song! It's really short for some reason, and although nice maybe not very complicated. Is it one of those tunes that was written on the spot but came easily because it was from the heart? We know stories about that happening often enough. I was at a distance from the feeling a while because of what feels like unintended "wow" from an uncentered record, which affected the instrumental beauty. Now, being off-centered myself, I have compensated. You probably know it's not the only flip of "Earth Angel". Still running around in circles after Yvonne, I saw "That's All I Ask" was, too. Of course, that's disappeared with no YT, but there were a couple 1963 Cray-Ons titles available....I forget the names, and even wonder if they're her. Do you know something? Until proven wrong, your Emeralds idea is by far the best! Just now I noticed how much their "Wanna Make Him Mine" brings up my own Shirelles fave of many, "Tonight's The Night

I'm a huge fan of Ms. Carrol's version of A Little Bit of Soap - her cool, strong vocals, with the back-up doing their 'shoo-bops,' all in front if a POUNDING drum & horn dominated track. a real rump-shaker. here Ms. Carrol does a 180` flip - her vocals are soft, yearning. I really wish Ms. Carrol's career was more... expansive, as she's a REAL talented artist.
I'm a huge fan of Ms. Carrol's version if A Little Bit of Soap - her singing on it has such a casualness to it. the back up vocalists - with their 'shoo-bops,' & the terrific horn and (pounding!) drums dominate it & make it a real rump shaker. Ms. Carrol does a 180` flip -her vocals here are soft & yearning. I really think she has a great voice & I only wish she had a larger career - she really deserved it.
I need to get a copy of this record! Lovely vocal. And I too would like to see a photo of her. Thanks for sharing Anthony!
