Review by Courtney Mason

The self-titled album Gayle Adams by Gayle Adams is a classic disco and funk record that showcases the singer's impressive vocal range and captivating stage presence. Released in 1980, the album features 8 tracks that are a mix of upbeat dance numbers and soulful ballads.

The opening track "Stretchin' Out" sets the tone for the album with its groovy bassline and catchy chorus. Gayle's vocals are powerful and soulful, and she effortlessly switches between high and low notes. "Love Fever" and "Your Love Is A Lifesaver" are two of the standout tracks on the album, with their infectious beats and catchy hooks.

The slower tracks on the album, such as "I'm Warning You" and "You Brought It On Yourself" showcase Gayle's ability to convey emotion through her singing. Her voice is full of passion and intensity, and she delivers each line with conviction.

Vocals weren't the main issue of Lester and Brown's work in the early 80s. It was the instrumental tracks with the band usually cookin' hard and some stunning solo work, especially from guitarist Brown. You have to go seek and find the best from the releases on Adams, Sharon Redd and Bobby Thurston and later Khemistry, usually from the time before the synth work took priority. Bob Dawson at his Bias Studios helped the Mainline Production duo come up with a clear but very funky sound. It worked worked well for a time, helped by some great rhythm patterns and decent melodies. Before the times, they moved on.

This song is weak compared to Your love is a life saver & Love fever. This song would make people leave the dance floor.

My 12" version of this ends a little differently, right after Gayle sings the last line of "Your love" the violin piece (that kind of reminds me of the synth line from "Da Ya Think I'm Sexy" plays with no other instrumentation behind it. This only amounts to a few seconds more, but noticeable to me when listening.
