Frente! - Jungle

Review by Jonathan Jaques

Jungle, the second album by Australian alternative rock band Frente!, was released in 1998 to mixed reviews. The album featured a departure from the acoustic sound of their debut album, Marvin the Album, and a move towards a more electric, rock-oriented sound.

The album's opening track, "Sit On My Hands", immediately sets the tone for the album with its driving guitar riff and catchy chorus. The following track, "Goodbye Goodguy", sees lead singer Angie Hart's vocals take center stage with a more stripped-down arrangement.

Other standout tracks on the album include "Lonely", a haunting ballad with a memorable guitar solo, and "No Time", a fast-paced rocker with a punk edge.

However, some critics felt that the album lacked the charm and originality of Marvin the Album, and that the band's new sound was too derivative of other alternative rock acts of the time.

Summary by Jonathan Jaques

Jungle is a solid effort from Frente! that showcases the band's versatility and willingness to experiment with different sounds. While it may not have reached the same heights as their debut album, it remains a worthy addition to their discography.
