Review by Joseph Bales

Sept Repons Des Ténèbres Sécheresses is an album that showcases the exceptional talent of Francis Poulenc, a composer known for his unique blend of classical and modern styles. The album features Georges Prêtre conducting the Orchestre National de France, and together they create a mesmerizing and haunting musical experience.

The album is a collection of seven pieces that explore themes of darkness, dryness, and despair, with each piece building on the previous one to create a cohesive and powerful musical journey. From the opening track, "Alleluia," to the final track, "Libera Me," the album is a masterclass in musical storytelling.

One of the standout tracks on the album is "Tristis Est Anima Mea," which features a hauntingly beautiful choir that perfectly captures the somber tone of the piece. The orchestral accompaniment is equally impressive, with the strings and woodwinds creating a sense of unease that perfectly complements the choir.
