Review by Michael Van Orden

The album Slip Away by Dottsy is a timeless classic that showcases the singer's incredible vocal range and songwriting talent. From the opening track "I'll Be Your San Antone Rose" to the closing ballad "Before the Ring on Your Finger Turns Green," Dottsy delivers a masterful performance that is both emotional and captivating.

The album's standout tracks include the upbeat "Love Is Like a Butterfly" and the hauntingly beautiful "Silver Threads and Golden Needles." Dottsy's voice soars effortlessly over the lush instrumentation, creating an immersive listening experience that transports the listener to a different time and place.

About Dottsy

Dottsy was born in Seguin, Texas on April 6, 1953, and grew up there. Between 1975 and 1981, she recorded as Dottsy for the RCA Records label. During that timespan, she charted thirteen cuts on the Hot Country Songs charts, including the Top Ten "(After Sweet Memories) Play Born to Lose Again." Four of her other songs reached Top 20 on the same chart. She returned to her hometown where her family has deep roots. She married and took time off needed to raise her children, while being active in local groups -- and not just as the performer they could always count on. After her kids finished college, Dottsy signed with Heart of Texas Records and in 2010 released a CD album entitled "Meet Me in Texas". She has been performing on a circuit of mostly small towns in Texas, usually touring with other artists from the label. Dottsy's favorite venue is the Texas Theatre in Seguin, an 80-year-old one-time movie house. She helped the Seguin Conservation Society raise funds to restore the small movie palace, making it into a beautiful space for the performing arts, with modern equipment and wonderful acoustics.

I think I only heard this song on KSO, a 5,000 watt station in Des Moines IA.

Here's a thought: Why don't we ALL call XM Radio or e-mail Charlie Monk and request they play more Dottsy?

Dottsy can occasionally be heard on XM Radio@ Willy's Roadhouse. (Channel 59.) Actually, that's where I first heard her and have been a fan ever since. The song was, "I'll be your San Antone Rose." I like everything she sings, but especially, "Love is a two way street" and ("After sweet memories) play born to lose again."

This song slipped away from two people. Their loss. Beautiful voice.

Three simple words: I LOVE DOTTSY!!....Thank you soooo very much for finding this "VERY- hard-to-find" song that was a "single-only" for this terrific singer!...It became her 4th charting country single, stalling unfortunately at #68 back in 1976...I owned her "The sweetest thing" LP as a kid, & have loved her ever since...thanks a MILLION for sharing another "lost" single by a singer who gets virtually no airplay at all today...especially here on the west coast!...Take Care! Elizabeth :)

Bless You, Pamela! There is the name of a magnificent Lady from The Eighties who you very rarely hear even on a Country Classics show. Now that I think of it K.T. Oslin is rarely played on one either.?B.W.

She's great .. has the perfect country voice from the 60's

Two amazing songs with this same title. Lorene Mann wrote and recorded a country blues stemwinder herself in 1971. Same title and an equally fine song. Dottsy's smooth voice does the Clarence Carter standard real justice. A mixture of Barbara Mandrell and Tanya Tucker.B.W.

Love it. Wow great voice. Thank you Wilburscott. Great request DD.

This is close of Dottsy crossing over to pop stature and her covering of Clarence Carter's Slip Away a song that was recorded 11 years earlier and this is my first time hearing a cover version of that song.

Dottsy made some great singles and albums during the seventies but somehow her name is not mentioned in the same company as Dolly or Tammy despite her undoubted talent.  This is a great single which has a very infectious soulful country backing.

Great cut!  I like to hear the country ladies take on these soul songs. And dig that  bassist--he's workin' it, baby!
