Review by Jesper Anhede

The album "Piano Sonatas No 4 In E Flat Op 7 No 21 In C Major Op 53 Waldstein" by Beethoven John Lill is an outstanding piece of classical music. The album features two of Beethoven's most famous sonatas, performed by the renowned pianist John Lill.

Lill's interpretation of these sonatas is nothing short of masterful. His technical skill and emotional depth bring Beethoven's music to life in a way that is both powerful and moving. The sonatas are performed with great precision and clarity, yet Lill also manages to infuse them with a sense of spontaneity and improvisation that keeps the listener engaged from start to finish.

The first sonata, No 4 in E Flat Op 7, is a beautiful and expressive piece that showcases Beethoven's early style. Lill's performance captures the youthful energy and exuberance of the piece, while also highlighting its more contemplative and introspective moments.

The second sonata, No 21 in C Major Op 53 Waldstein, is a more mature and complex work that is considered one of Beethoven's greatest masterpieces. Lill's performance of this sonata is truly extraordinary, capturing the full range of emotions and dynamics that make this piece so powerful.

German composer and pianist, born in 1770 (baptized 17 December 1770) in Bonn, Germany and died 26 March 1827 in Vienna, Austria. A crucial figure in the transition between the Classical and Romantic eras in classical music. Beethoven led Viennese Classicism to its highest development and paved the way for Romantic music. Beethoven was the eldest son of a singer in the Kapelle of the Archbishop-Elector of Cologne and grandson of the Archbishop's Kapellmeister. He moved in 1792 to Vienna, where he had some lessons from Haydn and others, quickly establishing himself as a remarkable keyboard-player and original composer. By 1815 increasing deafness made public performance impossible and accentuated existing eccentricities of character, patiently tolerated by a series of rich patrons and his royal pupil the Archduke Rudolph. Beethoven did much to enlarge the possibilities of music and widen the horizons of later generations of composers. To his contemporaries he was sometimes a controversial figure, making heavy demands on listeners both by the length and by the complexity of his writing, as he explored new fields of music.

Summary by Jesper Anhede

"Piano Sonatas No 4 In E Flat Op 7 No 21 In C Major Op 53 Waldstein" is a must-have album for any fan of classical music. John Lill's performance is simply breathtaking, and the sonatas themselves are some of the most beautiful and profound works in the classical canon. Highly recommended.
