Review by Quentin Dubois

The album "Шесть Сонат Для Скрипки И Клавесина" by И С Бах, featuring the performances of Leonid Kogan and Karl Richter, is a stunning recording that showcases the beauty and complexity of Bach's music. The six sonatas, which were originally composed for violin and harpsichord, are masterfully interpreted by Kogan and Richter, who bring a deep understanding of the music to their performances.

The album begins with Sonata No. 1 in B Minor, which features a hauntingly beautiful melody that is expertly played by Kogan. The interplay between the violin and harpsichord is seamless, with both instruments complementing each other perfectly. In Sonata No. 2 in A Major, Kogan's virtuosic playing is on full display, as he effortlessly navigates the intricate passages and rapid-fire runs that make up the piece.

Sonata No. 3 in E Major is a highlight of the album, with Kogan and Richter bringing a sense of joy and exuberance to the music. The delicate interplay between the instruments is particularly lovely, with the harpsichord providing a delicate counterpoint to the violin's soaring melodies.

About И С Бах Леонид Коган, Карл Рихтер

Johann Sebastian Bach was born on March 21, 1685 in Eisenach, Thuringia, Germany. A prolific German composer and organist, his sacred and secular works for choir, orchestra and solo instruments drew together the strands of the baroque genre and brought it to its ultimate maturity. Although he introduced no new forms, he enriched the prevailing German style with a robust contrapuntal technique, a control of harmonic and motivic organisation from the smallest to the largest scales, and the adaptation of rhythms and textures from abroad, particularly Italy and France. Many people consider him to be the greatest Baroque composer, and one of the greatest composers of all time. Revered for their intellectual depth, technical command and artistic beauty, J.S. Bach's works include the Brandenburg concertos, the keyboard suites and partitas, the Mass in B Minor, the St. Matthew Passion, The Musical Offering, The Art of Fugue and a large number of cantatas, of which about 220 survive. He died on July 28, 1750. Some of his sons also became composers - , , and .
