Review by Atmel Team

The album Rare Bands Of The Twenties 1927 1929 by Various is a must-have for any music lover who appreciates the sounds of a bygone era. The compilation features rare recordings from some of the most talented bands of the 1920s, including The Charleston Chasers, The California Ramblers, and The Coon-Sanders Nighthawks.

The album is a journey back in time, with lively jazz tunes and energetic dance numbers that transport the listener to the roaring twenties. The quality of the recordings is impressive, given the age of the original material, and the remastering has been done with care and attention to detail.

One of the standout tracks on the album is The Charleston Chasers' rendition of "Birmingham Bertha", which showcases the band's tight harmonies and swinging rhythms. The California Ramblers' "Lovable and Sweet" is another highlight, with its catchy melody and playful lyrics.

This shows what a BADASS Alex Hill was, as pianist, composer, arranger and bandleader! He was another Duke Ellington. His was one of the top ten unfortunate early deaths in all music

Arranger, composer, pianist Alex Hill {1906-1937} and this group represent the post -Louis Armstrong generation of black Chicago musicians. Many of them would work in the Earl Hines band. Trombonist John Thomas had recorded with Armstrong's Hot 7. Hill was very successful, well paid but invisible as a staff arranger for Paul Whiteman and Irving Mills before his early death
