Review by Gen-zel Habab

Tommy Tucker Time's album, The Man That Comes Around Honestly, is a soulful and introspective journey through the ups and downs of life. The album features Tucker's signature bluesy vocals and intricate guitar work, accompanied by a talented backing band that adds depth and texture to each track.

From the haunting title track to the upbeat and funky "Good Times Rollin'," the album showcases Tucker's versatility as a songwriter and musician. The lyrics are honest and raw, touching on themes of love, loss, and redemption.

One standout track is "The Bottle," a slow-burning ballad that builds to a powerful climax. Tucker's vocals are particularly moving on this track, conveying the pain and desperation of a man struggling with addiction.

Tucker was dropped by ARC/Columbia right after the session that this was recorded in October 1939, after 3 years of failing to produce a hit. Then Eli Oberstein signed him to his new Varsity label, and they did one session for Varsity in December 1939. But 'The Man That Comes Around' turned into such a massive, unexpected hit that Columbia came crawling back and offered to renew his contract, so he started making records for them again in March 1940, staying with them until 1948! They re-recorded it for a Columbia label pressing in 1946, since the original master from 1939 had been worn out from the unexpectedly high demand.
