Review by Lloyd Dewolf

Peer Gynt Orchestral Works by Sir Thomas Beecham, Edvard Grieg, and The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra is a stunning album that showcases the beauty and complexity of Grieg's compositions. Sir Thomas Beecham's masterful conducting skillfully brings out the nuances and subtleties of each piece, creating a truly immersive listening experience.

The album features some of Grieg's most famous works, including "Morning Mood" and "In the Hall of the Mountain King," as well as lesser-known pieces such as "Solveig's Song" and "Anitra's Dance." The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra's performance is flawless, with each instrument blending seamlessly together to create a rich and powerful sound.

One of the standout tracks on the album is "Peer Gynt Suite No. 1, Op. 46: IV. In the Hall of the Mountain King." The orchestra's frenzied and intense rendition of this piece perfectly captures the chaotic and unsettling atmosphere of the scene it depicts.

Norwegian composer and pianist, born in Bergen, 15 June 1843, died 4 September 1907, also in Bergen. By borrowing rhythmic and melodic elements from Norwegian folk music, he created nationally romantic and patriotic music. Most famous are perhaps his compositions for the play "Peer Gynt" (written by Henrik Ibsen), which features pieces such as "Morning Mood" and "In The Hall of The Mountain King". Edvard Grieg is considered to be the greatest Norwegian composer of all time.
