Back In The Days is a stunning jazz album by Michael Gibbs And The NDR Bigband. The album features a great mix of classic jazz numbers and original compositions, all beautifully arranged and performed. The NDR Bigband's tight and dynamic playing perfectly complements Gibbs' virtuosic guitar work, resulting in a rich and textured sound that is both sophisticated and accessible.
One of the standout tracks on the album is the opening number, "The Only Son of One", which features a driving rhythm section and soaring horn lines. Another highlight is "Back In The Days", a nostalgic tribute to the golden age of jazz that showcases Gibbs' impeccable sense of melody and harmony.
Throughout the album, Gibbs and his bandmates demonstrate an impressive range of musical styles and influences, from the bluesy "Blues for the First Lady" to the Latin-infused "El Abrazo".
