Lärmschutz - Noise poetry

Review by Gabriela Toussaint

The album "Noise Poetry" by Lärmschutz is an intense and experimental journey into the world of avant-garde music. The Dutch trio has created a unique and intricate soundscape that blends elements of noise, free jazz, and electronic music.

The album is a collection of seven tracks, each with its own distinct character and sonic palette. The opening track, "Irritant," sets the tone with its abrasive electronic noise and dissonant saxophone lines. "Gewalt" is a more subdued piece that features haunting trumpet melodies and eerie synth textures.

Throughout the album, Lärmschutz showcases their virtuosity and creativity as musicians. The rhythm section of drums and bass provides a solid foundation for the improvisational saxophone and trumpet solos. The use of electronic effects and samples adds a layer of complexity and unpredictability to the music.

Notes

Words break a heart as easily as it mends it. Skin-texture changes and facial muscles get a workout. The poetry of Niels Terhalle is just as much an assault on the listeners physique as Lärmschutz’s noise. However, the attack of words, guitar and trombone is not just directed at the listener: Niels, Stef and Rutger also wrestle each other on this release. Sentences gets smashed against a wall of wailing guitar feedback, while the trombone tears down the same wall as a sonic sledgehammer. Words see their chance to creep trough the new frequency-hole. Niels and Lärmschutz wear each other down to the raw, bare bones of the matter remain: poetry. And noise.
