Last Harbour - Volo

Review by Jennifer

Last Harbour's album Volo is a haunting and atmospheric collection of songs that will transport listeners to a world of melancholy and introspection. The band's signature sound, which draws on elements of post-rock, folk, and Americana, is on full display here, with mournful guitars, mournful strings, and mournful vocals all combining to create a sense of wistful nostalgia.

From the opening track "The Heathen Kings," with its brooding guitar riffs and mournful cello lines, to the closing track "The Golden Wasp," with its haunting vocal harmonies and sparse instrumentation, Volo is a masterclass in mood and atmosphere. Other standout tracks include the mournful ballad "The Great Silence," the propulsive rocker "The Host," and the atmospheric instrumental "The Leaving."

Throughout the album, Last Harbour manage to create a sense of unease and tension that never quite dissipates, even during the quieter moments. This is music that demands your full attention, that rewards repeated listens, and that lingers in the mind long after the final notes have faded away.
