About JS Bach John Eliot Gardiner
Johann Sebastian Bach was born on March 21, 1685 in Eisenach, Thuringia, Germany. A prolific German composer and organist, his sacred and secular works for choir, orchestra and solo instruments drew together the strands of the baroque genre and brought it to its ultimate maturity. Although he introduced no new forms, he enriched the prevailing German style with a robust contrapuntal technique, a control of harmonic and motivic organisation from the smallest to the largest scales, and the adaptation of rhythms and textures from abroad, particularly Italy and France. Many people consider him to be the greatest Baroque composer, and one of the greatest composers of all time.
Revered for their intellectual depth, technical command and artistic beauty, J.S. Bach's works include the Brandenburg concertos, the keyboard suites and partitas, the Mass in B Minor, the St. Matthew Passion, The Musical Offering, The Art of Fugue and a large number of cantatas, of which about 220 survive. He died on July 28, 1750.
Some of his sons also became composers - , , and .

I think that in some way, this music too is rooted in the rhythm and melodic patterns of dance and folk music from where Bach took much inspiration.
George Lucas' THX-1138 brought me here.
belleza total. hermosura de inicio a fin. hermosos tiempos de la musica realizada con perfeccion celestial

Dig it Cats and Kittens, Johann is plugged into the Main Artery of the Cosmic Jukebox!
First heard the St. Matthew Passion as a child when part of the Leith Hill Music Festival in the 1960s and fell in love with it immediately. This work and other choral masterpieces by Bach have been part of my life ever since.
I’ve been replacing hundreds of LPs, Das Alte Werk recordings of the Concentus Musicus Wien( Nikolaus Harnoncourt) with CDs of John Eliot Gardiner with no loss in the transaction.
Not very audible here is the Baroque motif for a heart beat, pulsing throughout.

Holy Moly .... this is a most beautiful piece !!!!
Is, or are, there any more, or connecting pieces to this selection of music?
I would be grateful to learn if there is.

shit aint even got no beat, lil wayne much better than this
Jazz is good music too. If you cannot enjoy a variety of music then you cannot say you have a taste in music.
Are you sick ?! How can you make such a comment below a universal piece ?
God I love being white and listening to white music.
That tonic pedal at the beginning in the celli and basses is just so eerie - creates such a dark mood. Will never grow tired of listening to this
I don't think anybody does Bach sacred works like JEG ... and when the boy sops come in .... *sigh* ... sublime.
Though there are some very good one's out there, this is the one I keep coming back to - the whole recording, not just this opening chorus.
Harnoncourt, Koopman (probably the best ever), Herreweghe, Dijkstra (currently on-going in Naarden, the one one everyone wants to attend). Don't agree about Mengelberg, though. His approach is completely alien to a modern public, over the top AND he had to make cuts to keep the duration inside 3h.
I've just had a phone call from Jesus.
