Review by Abdullah Al-Taweel

Beautiful Obsession, the latest album from Johnny Walsh with Sir Chauncey And His Orchestra, is a stunning collection of jazz classics that showcases the talents of these exceptional musicians. From the opening track, "My Funny Valentine," to the closing number, "The Nearness of You," this album is a joy to listen to.

The arrangements are sophisticated and elegant, with Sir Chauncey And His Orchestra providing a rich and full-bodied sound that perfectly complements Walsh's smooth and soulful vocals. The musicianship on display here is truly impressive, with each member of the band clearly at the top of their game.

Standout tracks include "Misty," which features Walsh's emotive and heartfelt delivery, and "Take the 'A' Train," which showcases the band's impeccable sense of timing and rhythm. The album also includes some lesser-known gems, such as "I'm Old Fashioned" and "I'm Glad There Is You," which are given fresh and exciting new interpretations.

I have the Johnny Walsh 45 and the Sir Chauncey instrumental 45 but my 45 lasts almost 14 seconds longer than this version. The ending here is cut short, unfortunately.Still brilliant! The Sir Chauncey (Ernie Freeman?) version which was used as the backing track for Johnny also lasts longer at 2-16.

Never heard this before, I have the Donnie Brooks version on Reprise from 1964. Both are very good.

Lovely musical performance !

I love this beautiful song! His voice sounds like Steve Lawrence. This was also released in 1960 as an instrumental orchestral track by Sir Chauncey on WB Records.

LOVE IT......

Since this was originally an instrumental, I wonder if Johnny Walsh made up these words himself.
