Review by Thauan Corrêa

Trois Toccatas Prelude Et Fugue En La Mineur by Johann Sebastian Bach, performed by Janos Sebestyen, is a remarkable album that showcases the artistry and technical skill of both the composer and the musician. The album features three toccatas, preludes, and fugues in A minor, each of which is a masterpiece in its own right.

The first toccata opens with a brilliant and virtuosic display of keyboard technique, with Sebestyen navigating the intricate passages and rapid-fire runs with ease and precision. The prelude that follows is a hauntingly beautiful piece that showcases Bach's gift for melody and harmony, while the fugue is a tour-de-force of counterpoint and polyphony.

The second toccata is a more subdued and introspective piece, with Sebestyen infusing the music with a sense of melancholy and introspection. The prelude that follows is a serene and meditative work, while the fugue is a complex and intricate piece that demonstrates Bach's mastery of form and structure.

The final toccata is a triumphant and exuberant work that showcases Sebestyen's technical prowess and virtuosity. The prelude that follows is a majestic and grandiose piece, while the fugue is a tour-de-force of contrapuntal writing that is both complex and thrilling.

About JohannSebastian Bach, Janos Sebestyen

Johann Sebastian Bach was born on March 21, 1685 in Eisenach, Thuringia, Germany. A prolific German composer and organist, his sacred and secular works for choir, orchestra and solo instruments drew together the strands of the baroque genre and brought it to its ultimate maturity. Although he introduced no new forms, he enriched the prevailing German style with a robust contrapuntal technique, a control of harmonic and motivic organisation from the smallest to the largest scales, and the adaptation of rhythms and textures from abroad, particularly Italy and France. Many people consider him to be the greatest Baroque composer, and one of the greatest composers of all time. Revered for their intellectual depth, technical command and artistic beauty, J.S. Bach's works include the Brandenburg concertos, the keyboard suites and partitas, the Mass in B Minor, the St. Matthew Passion, The Musical Offering, The Art of Fugue and a large number of cantatas, of which about 220 survive. He died on July 28, 1750. Some of his sons also became composers - , , and .

Sorry Janos but I'm going to have to give this to Rafael Puyana who played this toccata with much more feeling.
