Review by Carolina Pilichi

Jesse James' self-titled album is a remarkable piece of work that showcases his versatility as a musician. The album is a perfect blend of country, rock, and blues that appeals to a wide range of music lovers. Jesse's voice is a standout feature of the album, with its deep, soulful tone that adds emotion and depth to each song.

The album opens with the upbeat "Southern Nights," a catchy tune that sets the tone for what's to come. Other highlights include "Green Light," a bluesy number with a driving beat and killer guitar riffs, and "Lonesome Highway," a heart-wrenching ballad that showcases Jesse's vocal range.

The album's production is top-notch, with each instrument and vocal track mixed to perfection. The album's lyrics are also noteworthy, with Jesse's storytelling ability shining through on tracks like "Tennessee Whiskey" and "Rattlesnake Road."

Looking Back At : Jesse James (born James Herbert McClelland, October 3, 1943) is an American soul singer who had several minor US hits from the late 1960s to the late 1980s, and has continued to record since then.
Biography

Most sources state that he was born in El Dorado, Arkansas, but in one interview he gave his home state as nearby Louisiana. He moved to the Bay Area in California as a young child. In his late teens, while working in a chemical factory, he began singing in nightclubs in Richmond, and was given his stage name by a compere who struggled to announce his real name.

Initially credited as Jessie James, he recorded several singles in the early 1960s on the Shirley label before moving to the Hit label where some of his recordings featured guitar by Sly Stewart (later Sly Stone). His first commercial success came in 1967 when one of his recordings for Hit, "Believe In Me Baby

You know what, I hate this term ‘northern Soul’ which to a new generation of people it’s kinded of taken on this life of its own which is just bull. There is no such thing as ‘northern Soul’ it's just plain soul music mostly from the 60s and have nothing to do with a bunch of northern factory worker and being northerners they are by nature very racist, after all there the same people who made the southern states of America that should tell you all you need to know about them. There is nothing wrong in liking the music, but to try and change the history of this black American music, by claiming it as an English created music is just rubbish it had nothing to do with the English at all.

Stelma you're talking rubbish, if it wasn't for the people bringing the records over and playing them nobody would know them. myself and other DJs and folk on the scene are well aware of where the music comes from and we celebrate the artists and music. while america turned its back on them; there's also white Northern Soul artists. and calling us racist is fucking offensive. You're talking our your arse

Thank you for having this rola on here. My Carnalito past away last year. He always went with me to record shops and swap meets out of town to find the best and sweetest soul available. This rola i had on a tape, straight from an album. But of course it was lost. With your post, my brother shared many good memories. Gracias.
