Review by Tom Hardinge

The album Baccus Et Ariane Op 43 by Jean Martinon, Albert Roussel, and The French National Radio Orchestra is a stunning tribute to the French composer Roussel's masterpiece. The album features the complete score of the ballet, which is based on the Greek myth of Bacchus and Ariane.

The album begins with the overture, which sets the stage for the rest of the work. The French National Radio Orchestra, under the direction of Jean Martinon, delivers a powerful and dynamic performance, with each instrument contributing to the overall sound.

The music is rich and complex, with lush harmonies and intricate rhythms that showcase Roussel's skill as a composer. The orchestra brings out the full range of emotions in the music, from the playful and light-hearted to the dark and brooding.

One of the highlights of the album is the Pas de Deux, which features a beautiful duet between the two main characters. The music is romantic and passionate, with soaring melodies that transport the listener to another world.
