Intaferon - Steamhammer Slam

Review by Odilo Montero

Intaferon's latest album, Steamhammer Slam, is a high-energy collection of tracks that will leave fans of electronic and industrial music feeling thoroughly satisfied. With its driving beats and edgy synth sounds, this album is a must-hear for anyone who loves the sound of classic 80s electronica.

From the opening track "Steamhammer," with its pulsating rhythms and haunting melodies, to the infectious groove of "Get Out of London," Intaferon never fails to deliver the goods. The band's signature sound, which combines elements of new wave, industrial, and dance music, is on full display here, and fans are sure to appreciate the attention to detail that went into crafting each song.

One of the standout tracks on the album is "Xenophobia," which features a driving bassline and distorted vocals that give the song a gritty, underground feel. Other highlights include "Massive Retaliation," with its pounding drums and soaring synth lines, and "The Burning Hour," a brooding, atmospheric track that showcases the band's more experimental side.

About Intaferon

Intaferon was a short-lived English New Wave duo, consisting of Simon Fellowes* and Simon Gillham. They were signed to Chrysalis Records. Their song, "Get Out of London" (produced by Martin Rushent) was featured in the 2001 Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen movie Winning London. Singles were often featured on the channel four show Max Headroom. *Simon Fellowes is now an author. His debut pulp-noir crime novel 'Don't Breathe the Air' is set in 90s' London and Hollywood and addresses the seedy underbelly of the rock'n'roll business.

Can't help but notice that the rhythm and tempo are almost identical to that of the Fireman Sam theme tune.

Why was this never a hit? Got loads of airplay on national radio in UK. Always reminds me of sweating away in the hospital laundry where I worked at the time, thankfully it never took me over and I never went mad there.

I saw this on Max Headroom, too.  About the only show it was ever played on, sadly.  Not available on iTunes or Amazon, either - even more sadly =((((((

I remmeber seeing the very same Max Headroom eisode with this video in (remeber "the best cups Martha!). There was another great series on at the time called paintbox which made way out videos to current tracks by the likes of The Buzzcocks, Smiths, etc - don't suppose anyone has a still got that on video? One of them was of this weird bloke in a lift, but was really excellent. Another was Pulp Fiction by The Buzzcocks.

A small hit in Holland in the spring of 1984... And unfortunately it was their only one. According to me, Intaferon is a very, very underrated group.
