There was also one about JAWS as well. I forgot the writers
Have no idea why this came to my mind recently, and I figured someone, somewhere had the recording. And here it is. Thanks for sharing.
Released off of Bang Records in 1974. Peaked as high as No. 72 on the Billboard Hot 100. Their ONLY ever single release. No follow up singles and no album. A true novelty rarity!
Does anyone know the name of the song and the artist at 2:04 ? I have never been able to figure this out since the song was on the radio.
I never thought I would ever hear this again! Thank you!
This is one of my favorite songs/memories from a dark time in my life. One of my stack of 45's. My record player broke and they sat in the closet, then all my 45's and LP's got lost in a move. Along with almost all of my most treasured possessions. Bitch.
I don't know if it was a big hit in Australia, but I do remember that radio station 2DU in Dubbo N.S.W had it in their record record library and was playing it in the latter part of '74 to early part of '75.
Jet (Paul McCartney & Wings); Summer Breeze (Seals and Crofts); Rocket Man (Elton John); Evil Ways (Santana, War); Sweet Home Alabama (Lynyrd Skynyrd); Help Me (Joni Mitchell); Goodbye, Yellow Brick Road (Elton John); Clap for The Wolfman (The Guess Who); Rock and Roll Heaven (The Righteous Brothers); Feel Like Makin' Love (Roberta Flack); Go Back Jack (Steely Dan); Please Come to Boston (Dave Loggins).
Brings me back to my childhood !!
I have this on 45 loved this when I was a teen.
The reason you weren't able to find it on a Dickie Goodman collection is because he didn't write it, I DID! It was up to #79 (I think) on the Billboard chart and on its way up when Ed Sullivan died in Fall of '74- everybody 'pulled' it off the air out of respect (as my partner, Rusty Black, did a decent impression as Ed 'Peachtree'- we worked at WQXI Radio in Atlanta hence, also, the 'Chattahoochee' and 'Doraville' references). Mine is the 'news' voice at the beginning of the track and I wrote it the day Knievil tried to jump the Snake River Canyon in September. It was on Bang Records, the same label as early Van Morrison and Neil Diamond. At that time, Paul Davis was on Bang and we used an unfinished studio track as the 'B' side.
It actually rose to #72 on Billboard, although it did not chart until after Ed Sullivan's death and stayed on the charts for 5 weeks. Definitely in the style of Dickie Goodman but arguably better in terms of integrating the song lyrics.
Oh my gosh I have this song recorded from AM radio but the sound quatity is poor. Have never been able to find this recording on any of the Dickie Goodman collections. Must be very rare.
@matthewkeene It wasn't just the south. It was a hit in the DC/MD area as well...lol
