About Dolph Hewitt
American Country musician, fiddle player and band leader.
Born: July 15, 1914 in Washington County, Pennsylvania.
Died: December 10, 1996 in Kissimmee, Florida.
At 16, auditioned for WWVA and landed a job with the station. Began working with Frankie More and his Log Cabin Gang. After 10 months, joined Shorty Fincher's Prairie Pals. In 1940s saw Dolph in St. Louis at radio station KMOX. As a result landed a job on the ABC Radio Network as part of the Pappy Cheshires Ozark Champions. In January of 1946, joined Radio Station WLS in Chicago, Illinois and became a member of the National Barn Dance where he would perform for the next 16 years. Became known as "The Boy from the Hills of Pennsylvania". Recorded on the RCA Victor label, KAPP Records, and Hill Records. While at WLS performed on a number of programs that were broadcast throughout the day in addition to the The National Barn Dance on Saturday night. One program was "Smile-A-While" with WLS announcer Bill Duane.
