Review by Christian Bir

The album String Quartet No 15 by Dmitri Shostakovich, performed by the Beethoven Quartet, is a stunning display of technical mastery and emotional depth. The quartet navigates the complex and often haunting melodies of Shostakovich's composition with precision and sensitivity, capturing the composer's unique blend of darkness and beauty.

From the opening movement, with its mournful cello line and intricate interplay between the instruments, to the final notes of the final movement, the Beethoven Quartet brings Shostakovich's music to life with a sense of urgency and intensity that is both captivating and moving.

Throughout the album, the quartet demonstrates a deep understanding of Shostakovich's musical language, from the angular rhythms and dissonant harmonies to the moments of fragile beauty and introspection. The result is a performance that is both technically flawless and emotionally powerful, a testament to the skill and artistry of the Beethoven Quartet.
