Review by Sam Brett-Atkin

Muti, the 1998 release by Critters Buggin, is a unique and eclectic album that draws from a wide range of musical influences. The band's members - Matt Chamberlain, Skerik, Brad Houser, and Mike Dillon - bring their diverse backgrounds in jazz, rock, and world music to create a sound that is both experimental and accessible.

The album opens with "Flourish," a track that sets the tone for what's to come with its intricate percussion and off-kilter rhythms. From there, Muti takes the listener on a journey through a variety of musical styles, from the funky "Shepherd's Song" to the atmospheric "Herculean."

One of the standout tracks on the album is "Bumpa," which features an infectious groove and a memorable saxophone melody. Another highlight is "Cirrus," a haunting instrumental that builds to a powerful climax.

Throughout Muti, Critters Buggin demonstrate their impressive musicianship and their willingness to take risks. The album's blend of different genres and styles makes for a compelling listening experience that rewards repeated listens.
